A pedestrian was killed after he was hit by a car this past Sunday. The accident occurred on Puddin Ridge Road in Moyock, North Carolina. The 23-year-old man who died was reportedly walking down the middle of the road when he was struck by a car moving in the same direction. The car that hit the pedestrian was driven by a 19-year-old woman.
There are many reasons that can be pointed to for potentially causing an accident. Sometimes they are due to human error such as a driver who is distracted. In other instances an external factor such as the weather is to blame. On still other occasions, equipment failure is the cause. While determining a cause and ultimately placing blame often makes an accident easier to deal with, there are times when accidents occur despite undertaking steps to avoid them.
At the time of the accident it was dark. According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, there are no lights to illuminate the particular portion of the road where the accident occurred. A state trooper indicated that the clothing the young man who died was wearing at the time of the accident may have played a role. He was dressed in dark jeans and a camouflage jacket. The trooper also said that prior to the accident the deceased may have been drinking.
It is unclear if the driver in this case displayed negligent behavior that may have caused the accident or if any charges will be pressed against her. The collision may have simply been due to her inability to see the man. Whatever the cause of the accident, it is clear that his death is tragic.
